MAPI Support
Idea shared by John Marx - November 18, 2017 at 8:49 PM
In Progress
With ActiveSync on the way out we need this for version 15, 16, and all future versions of SmarterMail. Bug fixes, speed, and everything else is important but to be a "true" Exchange compatible email system we need MAPI. The competition has it, Microsoft obviously has it, and we must have it as well.

If you haven't noticed. Here is the party line.

"MAPI is a big, BIG undertaking. We're hoping to have an implementation in house by end of year, but it won't make it into SmarterMail until 17.x. Derek Curtis October 29 at 2:51 PM "

I missed that one. My biggest problem right now is that 16 was the "fix for everything", now 17 is the "fix for everything". Trust is being lost. Fix 16 and then once it is better than 15 upgrade. I keep thinking that 16 is Windows Vista or Windows ME. :(

SM is going to suffer long term IF they don't start listening to their customers. They need to stop adding Fluff and work on the Core. Having bugs/complaints/suggestions hanging for YEARS. Not admitting they screwed up for example. Even the people that thought they could do no wrong have deserted them.

We're looking forward to MAPI support. Wanted it for years. Glad it's coming. We just hope it's soon!

I agree - I hope v17 actually really adds value to our renewal costs each year. v16 so far has caused us more headaches (and even cost us some clients) than previous releases of SmarterMail. We've also been on the side of ST, adopting their products quickly to show our trust in them etc. However, all the issues we've had with v16 has really hurt that. Though, I will say, the support team and devs have been great working out reported issues, responding to me etc.

Will this get rolled into V15?

I've missed something, what's happening to ActiveSync?
0
Oh, think I've found it. ActiveSync support in Outlook is being phased out
0
No. MAPI is a huge change, and a huge feature. Therefore, it will be part of the next major version of SmarterMail. It's literally a project that will take months to complete.

Derek, how's MAPI coming along? V17?
0
MAPI will be an add-on like EWS and will be made available with v17 because of the underlining changes that are necessary to support the MAPI protocol. Were just a couple months out for a v17.

MailEnable has MAPI now. That's why I am converting

They have a MAPI connector you need to add to every clients computer. It’s not a practical solution. We on the other hand have native MAPI as if you are connecting Outlook to an Exchange Server in v17. Big difference!

But that is only one example. Mailenable is one of our largest source of conversions. There is a significant difference in products. Wish you luck.

The Question is will it be working by Jan 2019?

I will avoid responding how I really want to respond.... With that said, v17 will be available in two months. We will be releasing within the next week what will be included.

Really looking forward to seeing the new features. Thanks for all your efforts

I`ll rather take a solution that bakes MAPI into the server side and have our Outlook clients connect natively to that. We`ve tried different connectors and it`s just too much trouble to deploy, maintain, debug, etc.

We too are desperately waiting for MAPI to finally show up in SmarterMail - hopefully it will work out as advertised.

Hi Tim, this is a very good news! If it will work as expected (EAS, EWS and MAPI), I think that Smartermail will be our future mail server products for alll our Servers and Customers, converting Exchange, Mailenable and Kerio Connect.

I hope all the bug and request taht v.16 has opnened will be covered!

When can we have test for a v.17 BETA?

And what versions of Outlook can we expect to work flawlessly with the new MAPI module?
0
Hai Linda, we are testing Mailenable MAPI connector, but at the moment that I write there are too many issue an limitation in it.

For those customers that want a full Exchange replacemente we are now using Kerio Connect, but if Smartermail 17 will be what Tim Uzzanti said than we think that in the future it will be a good alternative and we can loose even Mailenable and perhaps Kerio!
0
Don't hold your breath. It should have been out 2 years ago
0
Yeah Linda, but now it is announced by Tim Uzzanti to be available in v.17 in two months...
Mailenable MAPI connector is 3 years old but it never works well till now, so for me it's worst than Smartermail...
0
I think that too much is now hinging on a proper implementation of MAPI in SmarterMail for SM to mess this up.

We`ve now watered the worst part of SmarterMail with the troubles in this autumn + the new WebMail, but Outlook and mobile users still are pretty happy (except the ones with very large mailboxes). I think that if this is implemented right, it will be a huge deal. So we`ll wait and see and then decide - no need to lose faith now after so much trouble :)

I lost faith a year ago when I spoke to the leaders of SM at a conference and told them about issues and needed features that are still not fixed or done to this day. I don't expect this thread to solve anything since it is stacked with SM employees. Just frustrated with SM.

Hi Linda, For other customers who are reasonably happy with the product for our 00's or 000's of users we want to get on and make the most of the product we can. I am finding it more and more difficult to follow threads when certain users just fill areas up to say how they want to roll the clock back or move to a different product. Personally I don't.

Hoping we have updates or information about MAPI soon. ActiveSync is a garbage protocol when mixed with Outlook that is causing us daily headaches with sync issues.

We'll have a blog post out tomorrow that lays out some of what you can expect in SmarterMail 17.x: MAPI, 2FA, SSO..all the good acronyms. :)

Tim said in January that it would take 2 months.. What is the timeline now?
0
I know they said it's a bigger fish and they were all going to Redmond Washington (Microsoft) to have their code double-checked which I am for.
0
That's great. Just have some clients I can sell this to :)

Question: is it MAPI support supposed to be built in the official 17 release the 3/4 of december?
1
When will v17 support MAPI?
Our fingers are crossed this will roll out before end of year?
0
Any update, Smarter Tools?
3
We will provide something shortly.  We are in the process of a roll-out of all our products and updates to all our internal infrastructure and tools.  We want to make sure nothing major shows up which could impact a schedule that we have internally. If the roll-out continues to go as it has been, which is only small issues here and there, then we will feel more comfortable releasing the timeline.

The last thing I want to do is release a MAPI release date and something major changes and we need to give a new release date.  Will provide more information in a little over a week.

Tim, Merry Christmas and happy almost new year. When do you expect to be able to update us on MAPI? I haven't seen anything here or in the blog.
3
Hi TIM, do you have any news about MAPI support?

From what you said on December 11th we hoped to know something before 2019, but we have not seen anything yet ...

Will it be possible to have at least one BETA version to try soon?
1
Ditto, we have clients asking every few days or so on the status of better Outlook integration.
