Outlook.com replies "550 No such user here" for aliases
Question asked by Chaz Frank - 8/23/2017 at 9:10 AM
Answered
[SmarterMail 11.7] Messages bounce when sent to domain mail account aliases hosted on Outlook.com. Mailbox accounts deliver; aliases immediately get Server error: '550  No such user here'. However, messages sent from other non-sm servers deliver to the aliases. DNS verified correct. E-mail address verfied correct (same address as works for non-sn servers). Anyone have a clue?.

Chaz,

You will want to review your SMTP logs to see if you can find the 550 referenced, you may find more information within the logs. SmarterMail does not have a mechanism to issue a 550 for just an isolated server so there may be something else occurring here. If it's working for other servers there is absolutely no reason it would not work for Outlook.com

I'm wondering if Outlook.com may be reaching out to the incorrect server. If you do not see the 550's referenced in your SmarterMail logs from the Outlook.com servers this may be the scenario you are running into.

Thanks Chaz, when I attempt a telnet test to your server using the same recipient address, I'm also receiving a 550.

How is this domain and user (mrchild) configured within SmarterMail on CCA103.net ?

Is mrchild an alias that belongs to the aimxxxxxxxxxxx.com domain on the server ?

Good grief!!! This is embarrassing. Thanks for the clue! AIMworldservices.com was setup by default on our SM server when we setup the domain, website, DNS, etc... even though we knew mail was to be on Outlook.com. I deleted the domain from our SM server. All appears well now. THANX, again.
