Null sender "fix"
Question asked by echoDreamz - 8/18/2017 at 10:35 PM

Does SmarterMail as of v16.2 actually do spam checks on null senders such as RDNS / RBL lookups? Or do they still get through normal spam checks and we just have this spam score now?

The null sender spam check was added. We're looking at changing our RDNS checks for a future release. It could be that null sender checks would be included in whatever RDNS changes we make.

Excellent, thanks Derek.

Is there a reason you can't treat null senders just like all the other email that comes in and run it through all the spam checks (RDNS, greylisting, etc.)? Seems like that would be the way to go.

Also, any chance of this making it into v15? Thanks.

I believe they are working to make null senders do RDNS etc. However they are working on improving that in the future (hopefully very near!).

The new Null Sender check only allows you to check the Filtering box. Is it possible to enable the checkbox for Incoming SMTP Blocking also?

This would really help as the Null Sender plus a few RBLs would score high enough to reject the message during SMTP.

Thanks!

Just following up on this. Having a checkbox for Incoming SMTP Blocking would be very beneficial as we see thousands of messages/day with null sender and would like to block them.

Would you like me to start a new thread since this one is Answered? I will offer a bribe (chocolate?) if that's what it takes. :)

Hi Derek, could you review my post below and see if it could be implemented? It seems like it would only take a few minutes to code. Thanks!
