Can't Save User Changes
Question asked by Gary King - 7/6/2017 at 12:56 PM
Answered
Just upgraded to Smartermail 16 from 14.

+1 on bring back the Show Password option!

I have a user I need to edit - make ANY change and the "Save" button is still disabled - I just want to increase their mailbox quota, but can't change ANYTHING about them.

Other user accounts (so far) are editable.

Thanks.

By default, the Show Password option is disabled (set to False), but you can simply edit the mailConfig.xml file and change the field to True to have it displayed again. You'll want to edit the <allowViewingOfPasswords></allowViewingOfPasswords> row to activate the option. (Stop the SmarterMail service before editing system files.)

In case you upgrade but don't see the <allowViewingOfPasswords> field in the mailConfig.xml, close the file and log in to SmarterMail as a System Admin. Go to any Settings page in SmarterMail and simply save the page. This will write out a new mailConfig.xml file that will include the new field.

As for editing the user, if you open the dev tools in your browser, are you seeing any errors in the console?

Just to follow up on this: in a previous version we had an issue where a page required a field to be filled out, but if it wasn't, you couldn't make any changes to the page. That is, the Save button wouldn't activate if you DID change something. However, there wasn't an error thrown on the field when you opened the page...

To see if this is the case, use your TAB button and open the user, then tab through the various fields on the page. When you pass a required filed that isn't filled out, or filled out improperly, you'll see an error display. Fix that issue and you should be good to go.

Now, I never saw this when editing a User, but I did see it when editing a domain or editing a mailing list...so my hope is that the same applies here.
