SM16 - Solid color background for login not being used
Problem reported by echoDreamz - 5/17/2017 at 11:07 AM
Resolved
We've changed SM16 to not use the wallpapers on the login to a solid color. However the browser still shows the wallpaper, cleared cache etc. without success. I see a brief flash of the solid color, then the wallpaper background displays. I figured maybe it was some internal caching of the SmarterMail setting, however it's been over 30 minutes without the required change.

Hey Christopher,

Are you still seeing this behavior? On my test install running 16.0.6362, I have a solid black background displaying correctly on the login screen. Since this post on the 17th, there have been two releases that address the login page, so it's likely this was fixed with one of those updates... If it's still an issue, do you have the background images field set to Solid Color or Custom Image Folder on Server?

I've marked this thread as Resolved in the meantime. Let me know if I need to update that!

Thanks!

Still have this issue. Set to #58595b / Solid Color and the login screen / welcome back screen still is showing the random background image.

Do you have the customization set at the system or domain level? I ask because if you customize the login page at the system level, enable login display customization for the domain, and the Domain Administrator does NOT customize their display, it'll show the login page that comes with default installations instead.

If you do have the custom display set in system settings, try editing the domain and disabling the Login Display Customization setting on the Features card.

Let me know what you find!

None of our domains have ever used custom login displays.

@ Christopher - Our setup didn't allow that either but nevertheless somehow a login customization got applied to our own domain on our mail server, and that was causing this. If you have your own domain on your server I'd suggest looking at the config file for the domain.

Yep already checked, none of the domains on our server use a customized login. I even reset our primary domain, set it to use a customization, then set it back to no customized login. still shows the wallpaper background instead of the solid color. I have tested over a 100 different random domains all of which do not have any customizations.

Hey Christopher,

What are your thoughts on getting in touch with the Support Department for a review? I'm unfortunately stumped as to what might cause the standard display to override your custom login settings... You do have a Phone Ticket available on your account that could be used to look into this, and keep in mind that your ticket would be refunded back to your account if something within SmarterMail is causing this display issue.

Hey Christopher,

I saw notice that this issue will be resolved in the upcoming 16.1 release. It looks like it was caused by a bug in the custom SmarterMail build you currently have applied. I'm going to (preemptively) mark this as Resolved, while I have it in front of me. If you find the same behavior after applying the 16.1 update, please let me know! I'll also keep an eye on your support ticket for any updates.

Thanks!

We are not running any custom builds :) We do not install the custom builds since the publicly available updates are coming out so quickly.

Sorry about that... might have read the ticket too quickly. I thought I saw mention in a comment of the bug being in a custom build, but it probably said something about giving you a custom build instead.
