MailProcessing directory not deleting TMP files
Problem reported by Benjamin Renko - 10/27/2016 at 5:27 AM
Submitted
Since July, the E:\Program Files(x86)\Smartertools\SmarterMail\MRS\MailProcessing directory has been filling up with files. To the tune of 20GB. When space became an issue we looked and found that files with the *.TMP extension remained in this directory which I can only guess are temporary files for the handling of attachments on emails. Called a friend and had him check his SM server and he had ZERO files in that directory.

We have ben running Smartermail for 8 years at least and considering that the permissions on that directory is wide open and we never had a problem prior to July 2015, it must be a bug in Smartermail.

Please advise.

14.6.5955 is the version we are running, BTW. And we are using IIS.

Benjamin,

I know you had mentioned that your permissions on the SmarterMail directory are wide open, but could you please confirm that the account that's handling the SmarterMail application pool within IIS (this should be Network Services based on our documentation) has full control over the MRS directory (default C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\MRS).

We do have a thread that will go through and clean these items, and we have confirmed this is working in our test environment. If your permissions are set correctly, I would strongly advise opening a ticket with our support department so we can work with you further to isolate the issue and come up with a fix.
