Delivery Failure

Since updating to Version 15.3.6109 we are having problems with email to all aol.com accounts and the occasional hotmail account.

Nothing has changed except for the update. I have looked at a couple of threads posted here but they do not lead to a solution. We are not blacklisted with AOL.

I have sent emails from outside our system to the same email address with no issues.

We are getting the following delivery failure errors. 

Failed Recipient: user@aol.com
Reason: Remote host said: 601 Failed to connect to the recipients mail server.  No MX records were found for the 'aol.com' domain.
Status: 544 5.4.4 Host not found (not in DNS).Attempted to send the message to the following ip's: 
	64.12.79.57

Hi Vahn. In my experience, the 601 error is usually due to a DNS issue. What DNS servers are you using in your SmarterMail setup?

We use our broadband providers DNS ip addresses 64.60.0.17, 64.60.0.18.

Just as a test, please change those to Google's DNS servers which are 8,8,8,8 and 8.8.4.4. Once you do that, try to force send those messages again from your Spool. If they are delivered then you know your DNS provider is having issues, Thanks.

I changed the DNS addressed to Google as you suggested and the emails just flew out of the message queue.

I have contact my broadband provider for a fix.

Is there any downside that you are aware of if I keep using Google DNS until my provider fixes the problem, if they can fix it?

You can keep Google DNS as your provider for as long as you need.

And do not cache DNS, it becomes poisoned too easily.

Keep Google DNS, they are much faster, and more reliable than most of the DNS servers provided by hosting companies. They are also less prone to cache poisoning ( which is while you should never run DNS cachi g on the local SmarterMail server).

If, and ONLY IF, your bandwidth is provided by Comcast, then you can use the Comcast DNS servers, but if you're not directly paying Comcast for your Internet access, they will block queries to their DNS servers.

Long story short: stick with Google's DNS.

Hi Linda,
is it so that many of dnsbl lists dont accept requests from 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. i mean they need queries from servers dns.

I haven't personally seen that happen. Many people use Google's DNS servers to do dnsbl lookups within Declude and I haven't heard concerns about those servers not accepting requests.
