Create task from email
Idea shared by Brian Ellwood - 8/24/2016 at 12:44 PM

Please x100... I end up using my inbox as my "todo list" and I'd so much rather be able to easily create tasks from emails to improve work flow.

For instance, if something doesnt need immediate attention I can assign that task to myself for later versus having it sit as an email in my inbox for week(s)/month(s)

Copy paste, sure, but why not "right click -> actions -> create task"?

Thanks =)

Hey Brian,

Thanks for reaching out with your suggestion! This functionality is actually already implemented within SmarterMail, though I feel it could use some improvements. To start a task from an email, click on Add > Task in the toolbar. You'll get a task window that looks like this:

Once you configure and save your details, a new tab will appear on the email like this:
I think adding a sort/filter to tasks so you can easily find ones that are related to emails would be a good addition to this functionality, as well as adding a direct link to the related email from the task itself. Play around with it a bit when you have a chance...What other improvements would you like to see?

Thanks,

In the folder tree, By Type > Linked to Tasks. Is a filter but this is for emails attached to tasks. Unfortunately there is no filter like that in the Tasks area to go the other way around.

Please let us know your feedback here, Brian! As someone who actively uses tasks associated to emails, we'd love to hear your thoughts on how to improve that functionality. I can change this thread back from Completed to Proposed if you have some suggestions to implement. Just post them as a reply on this thread :)
