Location of IDS data?
Question asked by Bruce Barnes - 6/23/2016 at 9:32 AM
Answered
Can anyone tell me where the SmarterMail CURRENT IDS BLOCLS table is locate?

Is this in a file, or is it in memory somewhere?

I have a client for whom I am about to upgrade from 14.X to the latest version of 15.X, and he currently has 338 entries in that table.

We'd love to save those entries and re-import them in to the upgraded version of SmarterMail.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Bruce,

I unfortunately have some bad news... The Current IDS Blocks entries are stored in memory only. They will be cleared out with a restart of the SmarterMail service (ie: a major upgrade). I do know this feature has been previously requested and it's on our developers' list of feature requests for a possible implementation.

Thanks, Andrea. I was the one who made the original suggestion that this be placed into a table, when it was first introduced.. This table is an important security tool, and when you've builr up several hundred entries, over a period od just a few months, and then loose it because you do an upgrade or server reboot, all of the hosted domains on that SmarterMail server are back jeopardy. Please, ask the development team to expedite this feature request ASAP!!. Thanks.

I just caught onto that and opened a ticket for it. I suppose I should have checked the forums first!  Yes, I had a couple hundred blocks in place and was pretty happy about that.  After a restart they all disappeared and that really stinks. I would be nice if SM cached the spool dashboard stats and recovered that info after a restart as well.

Hey Andrew, if you started a support ticket for this, it'll likely be refunded back to you as a feature request. If you could, please show your support for this feature addition on this thread: http://portal.smartertools.com/community/a2614/current-ids-block-table.aspx

Hi Bruce,

Just a quick update on this thread... As I mentioned above, at this time, the Current IDS Blocks are stored in memory only. However, I wanted to make you aware that making the IDS blocks persist on a service restart is planned for a future version of SmarterMail. I unfortunately don't have more details at the moment, but please stay tuned for more updates!
