Microsoft Outlook 2016 2/23/2016 Update (16.0.6528.1011) POP MAIL WARNING

Microsoft Outlook 2016 2/23/2016 Update (16.0.6528.1011) POP MAIL WARNING

After this update yesterday to Microsoft Office 2016 (16.0.6568.2025) all POP (inbox) mail on sever is being removed from server regardless of the setting in the Advanced tab in Outlook mail settings. Default settings are to remove mail from server after 14 days... with nothing changed in settings all of a sudden all POP accounts associated with Smartermail accounts are clearing all of the mail after downloading. I am still testing but does not seem to be a problem with Outlook since this does not happen with other accounts that are not Smartermail.

It seems there may be another issue with Smartermail like the previously fixed IMAP issue that was found to be a Smartermail problem NOT Outlook in this previous thread of mine....

Microsoft Outlook sends the request to delete.  SmarterMail does nothing behind the scenes unless the request is made from the client.  This would most likely be a bug in Microsoft Outlook if it truly removed your messages.

Same problem for me.
Outlook 2016 last update, clear all inbox mail.
Installing outlook 2010 it works fine.

It also download some mails twice.

It seems like outlook doesn't mark correctly the read emails or the date when it are read.

Thank's

That is possible but would you please set up a POP account in the newest update to Outlook 2016 and confirm that this is happening and at least look into it?

I have made a similar report to Microsoft as well here...

We have installed and tested internally.  Looks like a bug in Microsoft Outlook.  We believe there is a bug in Microsoft Outlook with the last message/date they have pulled from the server.

The post on the Microsoft Community was good.

Thanks for testing... yes I do like the post I made... I just don't understand how they could backtrack like that... Some of my clients had set to keep mail on the server for up to 90 days... now all is gone...

Hopefully Microsoft will patch this quickly...

I have had three calls in 24 hours about this and I am happy to at least have found acknowledgement!!  UGH. - Mostly involving duplication of emails - but then they also discover the emails are gone from the server too.

No backups?

No archiving?

we saw the same thing with numerous clients yesterday who were running Outlook 2016 - duplication of emails and Outlook removing all messages from server after update

Of course there are backups but restoring them to just get deleted again would be counterproductive. Clients can use the webmail until problem is fixed...

We are also seeing issues where mail is duplicated and some messages are randomly deleted. I just confirmed that all of the affected users are running Outlook 2016.

VERY good idea to use SM message archiving if it's available (it's in the free and enterprise editions).  As I've stated in the forums before, disk space is cheap, and it can save your hide if you're the mail admin. It's been an absolute lifesaver for me several times.

Any fix coming for this? Did you contact Microsoft to let them know about this?

It's all in the hands of Microsoft... http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2016-outlook/problems-with-pop-accounts-in-outlook-2016-email/79e8177f-b04e-491e-9a82-ae5b6565d3c0?page=1

Hi everyone!

In case you haven't read through all the conversations here, I figured I'd give a little wrap up... Microsoft has confirmed this is a bug in the latest version of Outlook 2016, where POP'd messages are deleted from the server or duplicated in Outlook. We wrote up a blog post about the issue if you'd like to check it out: How Our Community Handled the Outlook 2016 POP Issue.

Though this issue is not a result of SmarterMail itself, I went ahead and updated this thread status to "Being Fixed" to denote that Microsoft is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. Click the Subscribe button next to the "Being FIxed" status to be notified by email when a resolution is available.

Thank you for all of your input! And big thanks to Mark Lee for starting and updating this thread with Microsoft's response.

Hello everyone,

Microsoft has updated their community discussion and let users know that the Outlook 2016 POP issue has been resolved in their latest update (version 16.0.6568.2036), which they are in the process of rolling out. Update immediately by opening Outlook 2016 and clicking File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now

One important thing Microsoft notes:
After the update, Outlook may download all email one final time, which isn't ideal, but may be necessary to fully fix things. If this occurs and email is duplicated in your Inbox, you can use the method described in the "More Information" section in this article (KB 3145116) to remove the duplicates.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the posts everyone, this seems like the issue I am having.  The really odd part is that I am seeing TWO copies of the emails in my inbox when I go to webmail.  So, while I am getting two copies of random emails via POP, there really are two emails on the server!  Running SM Enterprise Edition Version 12.5.5409.  I have Outlook 2016 all updates in place (my version is beyond the one they stated is the correct one (I am on 16.0.6769.2017 and the one that fixed is was 16.0.6568.2036).

Anyone else seeing the same issue?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Not critical stopping my use of email, just really annoying to think you are seeing things and replying to people twice! ;)

Thanks in advance,

Dennis

Your problem is completely unrelated to this fixed issue in the thread... I would start a new thread with your problem.... :)

There were eerie similarities so i thought it could be related. Looks like someone else might be having the same issue as well. I will post in a new thread as suggested. Thanks, Dennis (See New Post Here: portal.smartertools.com/community/a87747/smartermail-duplicating-emails.aspx)
