SMTP Account as Default FROM ID in WebMail
Problem reported by rishikesh Somshetti - 2/17/2016 at 8:37 AM

Support,

We have MS Exchange 2010 setup which we are migrating to SmarterMail. The Active directory username are based on Active Directory/Employee id like 1234@abccorp.com. The email address UPN in AD is trupti@abccorp.com.

If I import the user based on email the FROM ID looks trupti@abccorp.com but if we import the user based on AD ID the email id is like 1234@abccorp.com.

To work around this we created a SMTP Account with email ids as trupti@abccorp.com with auth for 1234@abccorp.com. Now in WebMail we can see 1234@abccorp.com & trupti@abccorp.com but trupti@abccorp.com is not default. How do I setup as default.

the reason why we want user to login in webmail using 1234@abccorp.com and use trupti@abccorp.com as from id is because user when login in Outlook using AD use 1234@abccorp.com

Unfortunately it does not appear to be possible right now to set your default when sending mail to one of the SMTP accounts.

Dear Matt,

Is there any way to take care of this? User will not like to select the from id every time he sends email.

If we make "Active Directory email as UserName" during LDAP import then the SmarterMail admin will not be able to modify the email forward, Display Name and other attributes.

As explained earlier the user id (employee id) is 1234@abccorp.com and UPN i.e. email address is trupti@abccorp.com.

When admin tries to modify the user following error is displayed.

"Authentication type is set to active directory but no such domain could be contacted."

So if admin is able to modify users with email as username then the issue can be sorted out.

Dear Matt,

OWA allows to use both username & email login and it will be a great feature to SmarterMail for users moving from Exchange.

This is one of the largest implementations we are doing here in India and a help from SmarterMail to these small features added will go a long way with our new customer acquisitions.

It's 3:29 AM here in India and our teams are following up everyday. I can not ask my team to remain awake every day and then provide support to customers next day.

Request for a faster closure of issues that we have raised.
