clients using Outlook's archive does not sync with smarter mail.

One of my largest clients uses outlook 2013 as the email client and when they archive in outlook it removes the email and puts them into the archive.pst then the client closes outlook. No problem right, not so fast, the next time the client opens outlook smarter mail puts the email back. It seems that Smartermail sync with outlook does not work for this process. Since MS Outlook is the number one email client in use this creates a major issue.and huge frustration for these clients. Does anyone have a work around for this or suggestions on how to deal with this?

I wish I could give you better news, but I don't see any solution with Outlook products . . .

This is my personal opinion, and does not represent SmarterMail, or SmarterTools, in any way, but there are major issues with Outlook, in all versions, and I doubt that the Outlook archive will ever be capable of synching with SmarterMail - it's not an IETF standard and there's no published protocol for it.  IETF recognized E-Mail protocols include POP; SMTP; IMAP; and, with the advent of Microsoft's introduction of Exchange, EWS.

Now that Microsoft has made OUTLOOK.COM available online, both as a hosted service, and as a hosting service for registered domains, coupled with the fact that "boxed product" will not be available for Outlook products, beginning with the next generation of Outlook "software," I seriously doubt that the ability to synch external Outlook archives will be considered by many MX server software vendors.

What we are seeing, as a viable alternative to Outlook, is "EM Client" -- an Outlook look alike with much more functionality that works much better than any current Outlook product, having no issues whatsoever with SmarterMail, or any other mail server.

You can see more information about EM Client at: http://www.emclient.com/

There's a "free" download available, which imposes some limitations, and the paid client is not that expensive.  There's even a "lifetime upgrade" license, which will allow you to receive upgrades for all future versions for one, very low, price.
