Can mail Index files (*.cfs) be skipped during backup process for faster backup making and later restoring?

Hello,

I have quite big SM installation with about 2TB of mail data. I'm using Idera Server Backup software to perform backup every night. Since it takes a lot of time I was wondering how I can speed things a little and I came with idea where I will exclude index files generated by SM all the time (so changed on daily basis) to make backup and restoration process faster. My question is how SM will work with domain or user attached without *.cfs files located in his mailbox index directory? Will it recreate them or maybe crash completely?

Thanks

Probably. Based on the fact that a restoration of the data would require them to be deleted anyway, with the users having to login, via the web interface, to re-generate those files to ensure that all of the, restored, as well as any newer e-mail, showed up in the user's mail boxes.

It would be good to have some confirmation from ST. My question was also for scenario where not only user mailbox or some part of it would be recovered but in scenario where whole domains would be restored from backup which will not contain *.cfs index files.
