No Autodiscover but working?
Question asked by Dave - 5/14/2015 at 6:28 AM

Testing SmarterMail, it's working pretty good. Like it lots so far!

For kicks and tests I setup SmarterMail with EWS & EAS without bothering with SRV records, autodiscover records.

Enabled a mailbox for ActiveSync.
I am able to connect to the mailbox via BB10, Android and iPhone no issues.
I am able to connect OL 2013 w/ Active Sync no issues.
I am able to send/receive emails no issues.

Ran the MS Analyser and even it is giving me the green checks. Says the site for Autodiscover.xml is good but it doesn't exist for the domain I am testing with.

I am not sure if this is something on my end, the test domain setup, I am getting details from the higher-ups, or is it something SmarterMail application is allowing? Great it works but ... why?

Hoping someone can help me with my confusion - thanks a lot all!

The autodiscover.xml is created and served by smartertools automatically. There are a few methods that autodiscovery uses.

Did a search on my test server for autodiscover.xml and didn't find anything.

Smartertools creates it dynamically through code, not from filesystem.

Ohhhuuuu! Got it. Good to know. Still kind of scratching my head as to how it is working flawlessly without any added DNS records for Autodiscover. But that may be my confusion with how EAS and Autodiscover works. I will mark this as the answer. Thanks Steve!
