Last Login Date - Not accurate
Problem reported by Merle Wait - 5/5/2015 at 10:50 PM

Was getting ready to remove some of my own employee's (or ex employee's) email accounts.. when I noticed Last Login Date is not valid.    One employee, whom I send emails to, at least once a week (and yes - he does respond, although through our ticket-view - not email) .. shows date last login as 6/14/14.  I know that he looks at his emails every day.

Couple of thoughts:
a.) He rarely if ever sends emails - because he usually responds via our own ticket queue.  So maybe the date actually reflects last email sent??
b.) All employees, so he is included.. use the webmail - nothing else.

Anyway.... the last login date on reports isn't reflective of the actual date last logged in.

Hello Merle,

Thanks for the information. Can you please provide us with the specific version of SmarterMail you have installed.  The login date pertains to the user logging into the webmail application and not a device or email client.

Please send me the details of the LastLoginTimes.xml file in the following directory.
[C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service]
Do the times match up with what is displayed in the interface ?

Thanks.

To be clear, it is the installed directory correct? So in our case, it is  X:\SM\Service
There are actually two files...
   :LastLoginTimes.xml - dated  5/7/15  3:51 am
    LastLoginTimes_bak.xml      5/7/15  3:36 am
Wanted to be very specific because the information found there ... is really out-of-date.

These two, for example (surprising that they are next to each other):
<LastLoginUser Email="bill@READACTED.com" Time="5247055098374137541" HumanTime="5/28/2014 9:06:34 PM" />
  <LastLoginUser Email="paul@READACTED.com" Time="5247062818239107594" HumanTime="6/6/2014 7:33:01 PM" />
Both logged in within the last 2 days.  In checking closer, also found other entries, for same two people
(multiple entries for lots of folks - actually)
For example, next entry for  paul was:

  <LastLoginUser Email="paul@READACTED.com" Time="5247348719160856037" HumanTime="5/7/2015 5:14:33 PM" />
Bill, too, had another entry.   So is that the problem??   We numerous multiple entries for the same folks?
Do so delete the oldest or??
..and that is correct.

Merle, you can safely remove the duplicate entries and keep only the latest login value.  You will probably have to restart the service after doing this, but it should then show the correct last login date/time.  I will further investigate this issue and try to find out how the duplicate entries were being added (not the expected behavior).

Merle, have you noticed any more occurrences of incorrect latest login values due to duplicate entries within the LastLoginTimes.xml?

Date Last Logon ... for SM 15.3 = update.. isn't accurate again....
Have user that doesn't show to have logged on since  Sept, but has in-fact logged on hundreds of times since then, and as recently as last week.

Verified that in both cases.. there are again duplicate entries..
