Minor Upgrade SmarterMail to version 13.05430 -> error 1923

Dear SmarterMail Support and Engineers,
 
Minor Upgrade SmarterMail to version 13.05430 -> error 1923
 
During installation SmarterMail13_Setup.exe encountered error 1923 Server Smartermail Web Service could be installed, verfy that you have sufficient privileage to install.
 
Just click ignore to complete the installation process. After that login as Admin and reactivate License, tested everything working fine.
 
Question: How can SmarterMail engineers rectify this error?

Do you actually use the SmarterMail Web Server? If so, WHY?

Make sure you're installing SmarterMail from an account that has Administrator privileges.

Once you set SmarterMail up to run under IIS then it won't install the SmaterMail Web Server as a running service again.

If you are using an account with Administrator privileges and want to use the SmarterMail Web Server try Removing the previous SmarterMail installation, reboot, then do the upgrade.

I had that problem too with the latest versions.. and I hate it. the installation hangs with uninstalling the sm web service and I don't even use it. The service is disabled.
The smartermail webserver service should be optional with installation, and if it is an upgrade the upgrade process should see that it isn't installed and leave it alone.
And maybe when users start with the sm web server, but later on switch to IIS, than it should be possible to remove the installation of the SM web server service totally.
reboot the server.. That's not of this time anymore.

I've never tried it but you could try just removing the SmarterMail web service. If you have powershell installed use sc.exe or you can download a simple program like http://tools.sysprogs.org/srvman/

Again, I've never tried to run SmarterMail with the web service removed. I do run it disabled.

Hi Simon,
Whenever I see this error, it's usually easily fixed by uninstalling the product, rebooting the server, and then running the installation wizard again.

that's because the install program isn't able to remove the installed and disabled sm web service. just after reboot it's finally gone and the install program can execute normally.
I have used your suggestion many times with each update/upgrade.
it's strange that the service can't be uninstalled, isn't it?

Yeah this is an error with the installer not ignoring the web servers disabled state. This would be nice if it was fixed.

dear all,l also facing this problem when l upgrade to new version, l try restart and re install also same, my last try is reinstall old version 13.0 and reboot ... it work....when l login to check the version is show version 13.1. l not sure l do this step right or wrong but the smartelmail can run..

Should be alright !, It shown version 13.1, could be some of the previous files are still in your server during last installation... just my thought!

I don't think that is alright at all!

You should complete uninstall, reboot the server, then reinstall

I have allways noticed that uninstalling needs a reboot afterwards.

I read an other support answer When you upgraded to SmarterMail 13, did you uninstall the previous version first, or did you install version 13 on top of an existing version? If you installed on top, please perform a reinstallation following these steps: 1. Stop the SmarterMail application pool in IIS. 2. Uninstall SmarterMail from the Control Panel 3. Rename C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail to SmarterMail_OLD 4. Download and install SmarterMail from here. 5. Stop the SmarterMail service. 6. Transfer the following files from the SmarterMail_OLD folder to the same location in the newly created SmarterMail folder: --- All XML files located \SmarterMail_OLD\Service\ 7. Start the SmarterMail service. 8. following Services are installed & and running
SmarterMail Service
SmartMail Web Server
SNF Service
World Wide Web Publishing Services (IIS)
 
if any of above need to be removing please forward how to remove them and where
