Forwarding Address
Idea shared by jorge.mx.neto - 4/30/2015 at 6:02 AM
Under Consideration
Hi,

When a user adds more than one email to the function "Forwarding Address" and enables "Delete messages when forwarded" the messages are forward but a copy of the forward email stays in the Inbox.

The emails are specified like this without quotes: "email@domain.com, email@domain.com"

This was the behavior on SM6 and now in SM12.

Thanks,
Jorge

A possible workaround would be to create an Alias, and Forward the messages to only that alias, with "Delete messages when forwarded" checked.  You'd then add the multiple "forwarding" addresses to the alias.

I bet that would work.  Indeed, I think I have done this in the past, with success.

Yes, that's a solution for someone that don't need, but the customer need's to have the mailbox and not an Alias.

Can someone from SM take a look at this issue?

Jorge, what version of SM 12 are you using.  Using SM 12.5, I tested one account forwarding to two other accounts with the "Delete messages when forwarded" selected.  As expected, those accounts received the messages and the message was not in the inbox are the original recipient.

What does the delivery log say for the original recipient?  You should see Delivery from xxxx@example.com to yyy@example.com has completed (Forwarded Deleted) Filter: zzzz

Do you have any content filters or events set up?

EDIT: Also be aware, Jorge, that if this is a replicable bug, you would need to upgrade to SM 13 or 14 since SM 12 is considered a legacy product.

Robert,

Thank you for your response.

After more checking I can confirm that the behavior you describe is correct and my version SM 12.5 is working in that way, the only messages that stay in the Inbox are the ones marked as SPAM, and is like that because the Forwarding Exclusions for that domain is set in that way.

So my next question is, in the interface where we set the forwarding address can you guys add an option displaying the current Forwarding Exclusions setting (because the customer don't have access to that setting), and also add an option asking to delete all emails that won't be forward and are SPAM?

Once again thank you for your time.
Jorge

Jorge,

I have added the request to display the domain's current Forwarding Exclusions setting on the user's account settings Forwarding tab to our features request list.

EDIT: I have also added to the features request list an option to the interface about deleting spam messages that were not forwarded.

I have implemented the message on the Forwarding Address tab to notify users of the domain's current Forwarding Exclusions rule.  It will be available in the next minor release.  It will read as follows:

"NOTE: This domain is configured with the following Forwarding Exclusions rule: Do not forward Spam Level Medium and above" (or the applicable spam level setting).

Thank you Robert.
