Attachment Linking for SmarterMail
Idea shared by Wolfgang Resnicek - 12/16/2013 at 6:53 AM
Declined
Attachment Linking should be a feature that makes it possible to remove all attachments from incoming email messages, store them in a file storage, and then place URL links to the files in each message from which they are extracted.

Especially with SM 12, where it is possible to connect file storage with Google Drive this can solve many problems regardings messages with (too) big attachements.

By the way: This is not a new idea - attachment linking is still a feature of MDaemon (http://help.altn.com/mdaemon/en/attachment_linking_dialog.htm). But if it would be possible to extract attachments directly to Google Drive (or maybe Skydrive, Dropbox) this would be a "killer feature" of next SmarterMail version!

We will take this under consideration and add it to our feature request list.

After further review with the dev. team, we recognize the significant decrease in bandwidth such a future could provide.  However, we have decided that, at this time, this feature will not be include in the next major version of SmarterMail.  As with all community ideas, if this particular idea receives increasing up-votes and visibility, then we will reconsider its implementation much sooner.

Hello Rishikesh. If this is something you'd like to offer as a resource to other users as well, you may consider posting your utility in the Product Tools and Utilities category that can be found here: http://portal.smartertools.com/community/search.aspx?tagID=406&sortBy=0

Hi Andrea, We are looking at selling the tool at a small fee. If you have any guidelines on how SmarterMail third party tools are priced please let us know.

The pricing of your tool would be completely up to you; we have no restrictions or guidelines on this. If you post in the Product Tools and Utilities category, you can let users know that the tool costs a small fee and direct them to your website where they can make the payment and obtain it.

Hi all,

I am definitely interested in this functionality and have a client who could use this. Has this been revisited?
