Can I create or access a public file storage area?
Idea shared by Paul Stearns - 1/9/2015 at 2:11 PM
Under Consideration
Does SmarterMail have the concept of a public folder per domain?

What I would like is the ability to upload files to a directory structure where everyone in the domain has access to upload & download the file(s), create folders, etc. Can this be done in SmarterMail the way it currently works? I am running V13.0.

If not is this a feature that will be added soon?

I am aware that I can upload a single file, and make it public, and give the url to someone else, but this doesn't provide robust collaboration.

Hi Paul,

At this time SmarterMail does not support the public folder as you describe.  I am going to change this thread from a question to a Idea so others can vote on this potential feature.

Thanks, I believe it would allow a good value add for my customers.

The two choices that I see, would be;

To allow a user to create a public folder and then grant other users from their domain access to it.

or

Have a public folder for a domain that is shared by all users of that domain.

These choices are not mutually exclusive and both could be implemented.

Paul, I have added this idea to our features request list for further consideration by the dev. team.

Thanks, Before SmarterMail I used an Open source Mail/Collaboration system I modified extensively. This feature existed in it, and was well liked/used.

Would also be nice to see stats on uploaded and downloaded files from domains were files are made avalible from. such as downloads per day, uploads per day and so on.

This is one of the main features one of our groups brings up each year when we discuss whether or not it is time to move to Exchange.  Public folders would pretty much seal the deal and keep us with SmarterMail forever.
