Subscribe and Unsubscribe From a Mailing List

A user can subscribe and unsubscribe from a mailing list by sending an email with a specific command. These are referred to in SmarterMail as Listserv commands.

Applies to SmarterMail 8.x - 15.x

To subscribe to a mailing list, follow these steps:

  1. Compose an email message to the Listserv command address. By default, this address is STServ@example.com, where example.com is replaced by the actual domain.
  2. With "listname" being the actual name of the mailing list, write "Subscribe listname" (no quotes) in the body of the message.
  3. Send the message and you will be subscribed to the mailing list.

To unsubscribe from a mailing list, follow these steps:

  1. Compose an email message to the Listserv command address. By default, this address is STServ@example.com, where example.com is replaced by the actual domain.
  2. With "listname" being the actual name of the mailing list, write "Unsubscribe listname" (no quotes) in the body of the message.
  3. Send the message and you will be unsubscribed from the mailing list.

I have 5.5 smartermail. When people unsubscribe I see the email is no longer in the mail list but they still keep getting email from me.

Can you help me delete these out of my list?
Thank you

Hi Keith,
If you are sure they are no longer in the mailing list I would suggest to open up a support ticket. However version 5 is an old version of SmarterMail and there is limited support for version 5.

Are we able to pass other fields through this way of subscribing, e.g. name, email address, country, etc. ?

Or do i need to use the API for this?

Hi Anthony! At this time, these are the only Listserv commands available are the ones listed in the linked document below. For passing these other fields, you would want to use the API.
