Is "MailEnable" needed if I have SmarterMail installed?
Question asked by JohnC - 11/28/2022 at 11:04 AM

I just setup a windows server 2022 VPS on Godaddy.

It looks like it came preinstalled with an app called "MailEnable Messaging Services for Windows..."

Is this app needed after I install SmarterMail?

If it's not needed, how should I disable it (or should I uninstall mailenable)?

Hey John,

Thanks for reaching out regarding this question. Mail Enable is another email server software. If you already have SmarterMail installed then you should DEFINITELY uninstall this. Having both running at the same time could cause port conflicts. Or Mail Enable could respond and say that a user on your SmarterMail user doesn't exist causing confusion between the sender and the recipient.

Please let me know if this helps.

You'll certainly have port conflicts with 2 email servers running on the same O/S instance, unless you can completely set one of the servers to use non-standard ports.
