Is there a way to see the OUTGOING SMTP log and only those?

Is there a way to see the OUTGOING SMTP log and only those?

At the moment I haven't found it, but it would be very useful for troubleshooting the outgoing mail from the server!

Since we don't have a discrete log for outgoing SMTP your next best bet is to try the Delivery log search, searching for '] CMD: EHLO' and Display Related Traffic. It will still show delivery log lines for those delivery sessions but this will show you all of your outgoing SMTP traffic.

Thanks Matt! This will sort the problem temporarily, BUT i think it is not a real solution

A specific LOG for OUTGOING SMTP allow us to do specific serch into that (eg: search for a specifica email or IP address), meanwhile your workaround can't do that

Can you change this post into a feature request?

If your PHP script is making direct SMTP connections, it is opening a socket (typically port 25 - but it could be any port). Unfortunately, you won't find a catch-all mail log because your server is never going to be aware this is a mail connection, and hence can't really log it (without special trickery or awareness, of course).

One thing you can do, however, is send all your mail through an MTA (like sendmail, qmail, exim etc.). Configure the MTA to use SMTP. Then the MTA will catch all outgoing mail and log it - as you expect.

Another trick would be to modify your PHP script to manually log the email - but I'm sure you considered this.

Thanks,

Hi Vaishnavi! Thanks for you post, but this isn't what i've asked for...

I want that SmarterMail has a LOG dedicated for OUTGOING SMTP in the SmarterMail web administration interface (there's already one for INCOMING SMTP...).
At the moment the OUTGOING it's aggegateted in the DELIVERY LOG, but it is confusing to use it for troubleshooting

In the past I used other Mail Servers like  Kerio Connect, MailEnable, mDaemon, Exchange, Zimbra and all of them have it...

Now I am migrating all of our servers to SmarterMail because we like it, but that LOG is missing so I've asked for insert it in a Feature Request.

That's all.
