email being delayed at incoming gateway

I am using a spamexperts spam gateway in front of my mailserver and im always getting a queue build up in the "Incoming delivery queue" on the spamexperts server, it seems that my smartermail server is not accepting the mail, however after an hour or 2 it eventually gets delivered.
 
I have the ip addresses of the spamexperts appliance in the whitelist of the server and the hostname in the trusted senders... but still there is a delay, i have tried searching through the logs but there is no mention of any of the email thats waiting in the queue... its as it its just blocking it immediately?
 
any ideas would be really appreciated
