Notice: Repaired on tomorrow's release (06/16/2015) SM 14 ClamSup and CalDAV problems.
Problem reported by Joe Wolf - 6/16/2015 at 1:17 AM
Resolved
On Edit:  SmarterTools has provided me with a pre-release upgrade that seems to have resolved both issues.  You will still need to follow my guide to add the ClamSup signatures to the freshclam.conf file, but they won't be overwritten by re-install or upgrade.  We just need to get a few minor things going with SM 14 and it will be the best SMTP client out there.  ST is communicating with me better and I appreciate that.  Please wait until the next minor release (should be on 06/16/2015) before upgrading.

Then add my ClamSup thread files to the freshclam.conf and you're good to go.

The CalDAV issues with iOS devices seem to have been resolved.

Thank you SmarterTools.  I hope we can work closer together Tim.  I have many good ideas and I think I've passed on more than my share to date.  I hope you agree.

END of EDIT.

I'd recommend against upgrading to the latest 13.x or 14.x SmarterMail.

SM 14.x has SERIOUS CalDAV problems with iOS devices.
SM 14 has SERIOUS problems with ClamSup.

I cannot get SmarterTools to open a useful conversation with me despite them asking me to be a Product Expert.  Very frustrating. I honestly don't think they even understand the problems.  I could help but I have no way to do so.

Do yourself a favor.  If you're on a stable version do NOT upgrade at this time.   It will only aggravate you and severely piss off your customers or users

These problems should be resolved in a matter of minutes or hours.... not days, weeks or months.

-Joe

Thanks,
-Joe

Joe, are the ClamSup problems remaining even after making the changes to the securiteinfo entries? I have taken a close look at my server this morning and all appears fine...haven't had any connection errors, and after making those changes yesterday it has captured a handful of malicious files.
What other issues are you seeing?

I'm having people with certain iOS devices ready to kill me because CalDAV no longer works on the latest releases. Works fine on Android. This along with the ClamSup is reason enough to stay safe for now.

Joe, just to check, if we do not run EWS then this issue will only effect us from the ClamSup perspective...right?

I ask as since upgrading we have seen one server (2008 R2) increase in its RAM usage by a huge amount.  It's erratic, not constant and drops pretty quickly, however this particular server was our first SM instance...dedicated 16GB etc etc...it has never risen above 18% usage of RAM in over 2.5 years...I have an email alert with anything above 15% for a certain period.  Since the upgrade it has so far hit over 30% usage three times....way too much of a coincidence for my liking.  However, the other servers, all 2012 R2 have had no issues bar the ClamSup debacle!

CalDAV will be fixed on iOS.
ClamSup will have Securite removed from the config file.
freshclam.conf will stop being rewritten every time SmarterMail starts.

All in the next minor. :)

Why remove Securite?  I think their signatures are worth using.

The next minor release of SM 14 will not overwrite freshclam.conf. If you want to use Securite you can follow my guide. I think they're some of the best signature files available.
Thanks, -Joe

Joe;

Once this is resolved, can you please write up a new configuration guide for ClamAV with the Securite signature file settings.

I think a fresh posting of the settings, perhaps one general ClamAV guide, and one with the additional Securite settings, might be very helpful for some people and having them as fresh posts would bring the most current, and accurate, information together in one or two locations.

EDIT/ADDENDUM:  Perhaps a PDF post, on one of your websites, with the most current settings, would make it easier to keep all of the most current information in one place, without users having to search through threads to find everything they need.

Thanks

Bruce, will do. I'm running a pre-release version of SM 14 that fixes two major issues. I'll have to wait to see what the next minor release actually does before I can figure out what to recommend.
Thanks, -Joe

Hi Joe,

what about the last releases of SM 14 (e.g. 14.0.5661)? Are the CalDAV-problems with iOS solved? I´m using SM 13 and wondering if I upgrade to SM 14.

Thanks in advance

Ronald

We have a CalDAV issue right now with iOS devices creating a bunch of "Reminders" calendars. We have a custom build with a fix right now but in the next minor it will be good.

I noticed all the reminder calendars and wondered what was going on. Next minor = today?

Currently working on functionality that will automatically remove those calendars. There is not a scheduled minor today. If you need a custom build you can contact sales and we can get a build to you.

Hi Joe,
Kindly may you tell me if your recommendations and steps (in last long 3 posts) are required for SM 15.4 ? I have noticed the (-) in the start of the lines in CalmSub.ini with no .error file when update CalmAV.

Thank you,
