Stop mailing list sending copy of message to original poster
Question asked by Ben Griffiths - 11/16/2014 at 9:50 PM
Unanswered
Scenario:
10 people in mailing list
Person 1 sends to list
Email sent to everyone on list, including back to Person 1

Question:
How can I stop Person 1 also receiving this mail, they obviously don't need it as they just sent it!

I'm using this list in a Yahoo Groups style format, so I want everyone to be able to send to it and then everyone else to be able to reply.

Also - is there a way to change the "From Name" to the users From Name, rather than the setting currently which changes both the From Name and From Email..

If you have not done so already, play around with the List To Address and List From Address settings.

I believe the default behavior is the display the User's From Name and From Email Address. Not sure if this can be changed.

Set Allowed Posters to Subscribers Only.

Not sure if this is possible. Or desirable. If an address is subscribed to a mailing list, that address will receive messages sent to the mailing list.

I hope this is helpful.

Hey Eric!

Yes, I did have a look at that, but as I said in my OP, it also changes the from email address too (although the reply address is correct). The issue with this though is it gives away peoples email addresses, which is something they definitely don't want.

I'll disagree about the sending loop though - I don't need a copy of an email I just sent :) Maybe it should be a checkbox option in the mailing list setting.

Dear Ben,

Hmm. The names and email addresses of all mailing list subscribers should not be visible to other mailing list subscribers.

Do you mean, the name and address of the sender are visible in the FROM field of messages posted to the mailing list? I believe that is simply how it works and there is no way around it.

It sounds like you might need a solution for your mailing list that allows you to set these options.

Wish I could be more helpful.

Eric
