Modify Outgoing SMTP Header?
Question asked by Scott Howell - 11/12/2014 at 8:09 PM

I am using a SmartHost that has some very nice features that can be accessed via a custom header (X-SMTPAPI). Is there anyway to allow for this in SmarterMail?

No, as far as I know there is no way to customize any SMTP Response Code in SmarterMail. It has been requested for YEARS since some of them are very confusing, but so far all requests have been ignored.

I was doing some searching and came across some info on a 3rd party product called Ultimate Spool Manager. I am trialing it now and it does exactly what I need :). So far it seems very stable and is inexpensive to boot.

I've read about, but never tried that product. I wasn't aware that you could change the SMTP response codes I know that I tried the bounce.io for a short period of time and it's just a sales joke Maybe it has some value to a spammer using SmarterMail, but I saw no advantage for a legitimate operation running an email delivery service to small businesses and professionals.

Just my opinion. Ultimate Spool Manager may be great, but I haven't been able to understand exactly what it does. My position is neither positive or negative... neutral because I'm coming from a position of ignorance Wish it was documented better.

Docs could be better, but once installed it's pretty dead simple. How it works is by simply monitoring the spool folder for new mail. Before SM can process the message USM grabs it checks to see if it matches any rules, modifies it and puts it back in the spool folder for processing by SM. The rules/actions are adequate, but I've seen better ( Exclaimer, CodeTwo, etc ), but modifying the Message Header is one of the things that can be done. The only thing that is really missing is Tokens in the "replace" part of the actions.
