Cyren Licensing on Incoming Gateways
Question asked by Rafael Grecco - 10/9/2014 at 12:39 PM

Hi,

I am currently testing Cyren on one of my Smartermail installations. I am liking it very much.

I would like to know if it is possible to license it to be used on Incoming Gateways.

For example, I have 4 Smartermail servers. I would like to make a new server to act as the Incoming Gateway for all my servers, where I would eliminate most Spam before delivering it to the e-mail servers (and archiving it, wasting valuable space storage).

How would I license it? As far as I know, Smartermail can be used as a Incoming Gateway for free. How would I license Cyren? As unlimited accounts?

Thanks.
Rafael

I would like to do the same thing.  I have asked about this as well and received no answer.  It would appear Cyren will work only for domains that are setup in the mail server.  Even though we pay for the unlimited user version of SmarterMail and Cyren, it seems to ignore any domain not setup on the server.  I suspect it's some sort of licensing issue between SmarterMail and Cyren but I could never get anyone to give me a response on the forums.  And I don't want to burn a ticket for a support rep to reply with "you can't do that".

They also seem to have gone one step further and disabled the X-SmarterMail-TotalSpamWeight header for non-local domains.  That's how we used to filter spam for our gateway domains but that's nearly impossible now.  This is another issue I am unable to get a response on and I'm not willing to waste a ticket on.

It's stuff like this that makes me look around at alternative mail server solutions.

Just to let you guys know,Cyren does not offer the solution we are looking for.

After testing some anti-spam tools, I decided to use E.F.A Project tool. https://efa-project.org/.

Rafael, If you use the AntiSpam Setting from ChicagoNet (by Bruce) you can filter a lot of spams only using RBL and anothers configuration. Search in the forum about that.
