Smartermail 13: Messages stuck in spool
Problem reported by Nicolas Lambert - 1/14/2015 at 12:16 PM

Hi,

It's been a couple times now that we see a batch of messages getting stuck in the spool for many hours. They always show a "Next attempt" date which is in the past. For example I have this message right now which is stuck. It's 14:08 here and the Next Attempt will be at 14:03.

Usually we have to log onto the mailserver with an FTP software, download the messages from the spool folder, erase the message from the web interface and from the FTP and finally re-upload the message (.eml only not the .hdr) into the drop folder. It's the only way we were able to fix the next attempt date and get these messages delivered.

Did anyone notice something similar with Smartermail 13 or is it just us?

Thanks !

It could be some other software on your server holding on to these files so Smartermail can't access them properly. Check you antivirus.

Yeah thanks i managed to resolve this issue this morning. It was Spam Assassin Remote Server that was holding them. I deactivated it and every message were delivered instantly.

I think this thread should be turned into a feature request.

It would be nice if there was an unavoidable message saying when an external spam assassin is offline.

This might have been the resolution for this issue of mine: http://portal.smartertools.com/community/a1926/spool-issue.aspx I was trying so many things that when I turned off Spam Assassin filtering AND removed a Content Filter, then, my intra domain email with attachment when through and left the Spool. I am inclined to think the resolution was really deleting the Content Filter which was trying to move all .xls and .xlsx to a folder on the File System...but it was this thread that got me looking back under those settings since they are on the same menu. So kudos for that.

I second the feature request, and further recommend having smarter mail optionally send a notification email alert if an external Spam Assassin server (or any external RBL) is unresponsive.
