Create and Authorize Multiple System Administrators

This article applies to recent versions of SmarterMail. View articles for SmarterMail 15.x and earlier.

For better security, SmarterMail allows the creation of multiple system administrator accounts. This allows you to have a system administrator account for anyone who requires access without having them share a single account and password. In addition to giving better control over who can log in with full access, it also it allows you to set additional permissions, such as restricting which IP Addresses can log in to each account, who can retrieve user passwords with Web services, etc.

To create an additional system administrator follow these steps:

  1. Log into SmarterMail as the primary system administrator.
  2. Click on the Settings icon.
  3. Click Administrators in the navigation pane. A list of existing system administrators will load in the content pane.
  4. Click New in the content pane toolbar.
  5. Give the new administrator a username and password. All other settings are optional.
  6. Click Save.

Hi Carl. What version of SmarterMail are you using?
Andrea Rogers (1/13/2015 at 1:05 PM)
I'm having the same problem. One of my domains uses SmarterMail v12.4 and the other uses v13.2. Neither has System Administrators under any of the headings in Settings. I can't find ANY way to make an additional administrator, either Domain Admin or Sys Admin.

To those that are unable to find this feature, you need to make sure that you are logged on as the "primary" system administrator (username: admin). You may be using a login that was created by the primary system administrator (username: admin).

Is there any equivalent for SmarterTrack?
Brad Hall (11/30/2017 at 11:50 PM)
Brad -- "Administrator" is a Role in SmarterTrack. Therefore, you can add that Role to any Employee within the system OR you can create a new Employee with JUST the Administrator Role. (If you don't add the Agent Role to them as well, then you don't take a "license" either.) That said, there's not the granular control for Administrators like there is for a SmarterMail System Admin.
