Installing SmarterTrack on a Dedicated Server

This article applies to recent versions of SmarterTrack. View articles for SmarterTrack 12.x and earlier.

Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL will need to be installed prior to installing SmarterTrack. This is to ensure SmarterTrack has a database to connect to during setup. In the case of MySQL, a default database should be created. In addition, SmarterTrack requires .NET 4.5 Framework in order to function properly. Ensure both of these items are installed prior to installing SmarterTrack.

Installing SmarterTrack
Then follow these steps to install SmarterTrack on a dedicated server:

  1. Download the SmarterTrack full installer files from the SmarterTrack Download page.
  2. Run the SmarterTrack installer.
  3. Review the End User License Agreement (EULA) and accept the terms of the EULA to continue.
  4. Unless you choose a different installation folder, the default installation path will be C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterTrack\.
  5. After the InstallShield Wizard runs, SmarterTrack is installed. You will now need to run and complete the Setup Wizard.

Running the Setup Wizard

After the InstallShield Wizard is finished installing SmarterTrack, the Setup Wizard will open. The Setup Wizard will walk you through the connection and initialization of the database, the activation of the product, initial department and account creation, and default SMTP configuration. Once you have completed the Setup Wizard, the system will automatically log you in to the portal as the administrator.

How do we install without running the Setup wizard. i.e. Manual installation
Kadar Shah (6/29/2016 at 9:40 PM)
Hello Kadar, you can use our manual installer for that:

Are there any specific instructions for the manual install or just drop the files in an IIS website?
Robert Williams (1/11/2017 at 9:35 AM)
The setup wizard fails to run in my case... Server 2012, IIS 8.0, MS SQL Express was just installed... Smarter Track installs, and it adds SmarterTrack as an app pool and site in IIS... but we can't 'browse site' from within IIS nor can we connect locally (behind the firewall), or from anywhere - "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at ****:9996.

Looks like things may have worked if the Wizard ran and helped us create a connection to the DB, etc... Any ideas?
