Initial thoughts on iOS app
Idea shared by Jacob Colton - 4/24/2022 at 10:40 AM

Hi,

We have started using this and I have a few initial thoughts:

  1. Is there anyway way that when we click on a link to our install it will push it over to the app rather than open it in the browser?
  2. We currently have our ST install locked down to Ips but the app doesn’t appear to be – can you confirm how we would lock the app down to specific Ips?
  3. When replying to a ticket, it seems you can't reply and change status in one go you need to reply, send and then change status - can this be made easier?
  4. Follow ups don't seem to default to 24 hours in the future as they do in the web interface?
  5. When deleting apps from the list view it takes around 3 taps, can this be made easier? Maybe with an option to select multiple tickets and then delete / close?
Thanks
Jacob

Here's my thoughts concerning these items:

  1. There may be a way, but it may cause some issues on the web side of things. I will bring up having another option added for "Open in App" but using the same link to go to both places (depending on whether they have the app installed) isn't really a thing I believe that can be done.
  2. Mobile device IPs change constantly. You can't use IP restrictions when you use the mobile app.
  3. You can change the status while sending by opening up the "Additional Options" accordion under the subject and changing it there before sending. (Clarification, this will be this way on the build coming out this week. The one out in the beta right now may not show it properly)
  4. Good point on the follow-ups. I'll pass that along.
  5. We debated multi-select a LOT when designing the app, but decided that it would add a lot more interface confusion and additional buttons and scenarios that we didn't want to support at this time.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll make sure to pass the items along to the team.

Thanks:

2. We use VPNs on our phones to lock everything down, in theory is this possible? i.e. by a web.config in a specific folder within smartertrack like we do for the web interface?
3. Ah ok thanks
4. Thanks
5. Ok, is there a quicker way to delete / close tickets with less than three taps?

P.S. I do think the app is a significant improvement on the web interface on mobile so great work :)

I'll pass on your comments for #1.

For #2, it's probably possible if IIS rules are what you're using. You could work around it by using the same IIS rule for the api/v2/ subfolder under your track install. Currently that path is only used for the mobile app.

For #5, you can swipe and choose delete from that menu, but I think you're still at 3 taps. We debated this a lot and in our user testing decided that accidental deletions were way worse than an extra tap. Happy to see other beta tester's feedback on this as well though.

So I have checked I can't see a folder called api/v2 for locking down the app normally we do it on the Management folder using IIS IP address and Domain Restrictions

Any update please?

Hello Jacob,
Api/v2 isn’t a physical folder but rather one handled by the API to respond to requests. One of our support agents is looking into how you can use restrictions on it, whether that means adding a placeholder directory or a manual rule in IIS. Thank you for your patience

One thing you can probably do with your existing firewall setup is implement pattern matching that essentially watches for any access to that "path" originating from an IP other than your own, or the server's, then drops that request.
