Exchange Calendars Do Not Support Geo-Specific Reminders

A limitation of Exchange is the inability to handle location based reminders. For example, you may use iPhone's Siri or Android's Google Now to say, "When I get home today, remind me to call my mom." Ideally, you would receive a notification to call your mom as soon as you got home. However, if your smartphone is synced to your SmarterMail account using Exchange ActiveSync and reminders/tasks are set to sync to your phone, you would not receive this notification. This is not a limitation of or an issue caused by SmarterMail but is because Exchange does not support geo-specific reminders.
 
For iPhones, a workaround can be put in place to use iCloud for reminders instead of Exchange. However, for Android devices, task syncing would simply need to be turned off in order to use location based reminders. Steps on each of these can be found below.
 
iPhone
Follow these steps to disable the sync of Exchange reminders and use iCloud instead.
  1. Open your device settings.
  2. Click on Mail, Contacts, Calendars and select the Exchange account. 
  3. Toggle the Reminders setting from On to Off.
  4. Go back to the Mail, Contacts, Calendars settings and this time choose the iCloud account. 
  5. Toggle the Reminders setting from Off to On.
Android
Follow these steps to disable the sync of Exchange reminders.
  1. Open your device settings.
  2. Locate and click on your Accounts settings and select the Exchange account. 
  3. Click on Settings and choose the Exchange account you wish to modify. 
  4. Click on the option for More settings to find the sync settings for contacts, calendar, etc.
  5. Uncheck Sync Task.
