Using the Events system, the System Administrator can blind carbon copy (BCC) a specific user's sent and received messages to another email account. This ability is useful for both archiving and monitoring purposes.

  1. Log in to SmarterMail as the System Administrator.
  2. Click the Settings icon.
  3. Click Events in the navigation pane.
  4. Click the New button to begin formatting your Event.
  5. In the Event Name field, type the name of the event.
  6. In the Event Status, make sure the Event is Enabled.
  7. In the Event Category field, select Email.
  8. In the Event Type field, select Message Received.
  9. On the Conditions card, click on New Condition.
  10. Select To Address and type the user's email address in the corresponding field.

how do we do multiple emails at the same time
kw (2/15/2015 at 9:08 AM)
kw, Do you have emails already in your inbox that you want to copy to someone else? If so, please be aware that this feature will not move historical messages, only new ones that have been sent or received. To copy multiple messages to another account, you can use the forwarding option, then set up this event to copy all future emails as needed.

Hello.. I am facing problem from Instruction #9 above. I cannot change the email address. It is stuck to the administrator email address.

Is there a bug at this stage with version 12.4

Rukshar Khan (3/12/2015 at 4:41 PM)
That's not expected behavior and I'm not able to replicate this on version 13.3. If you're able to upgrade your installation to version 13.x, I'd try that and see if that resolves this issue. If not, please open a support ticket so the support team can further troubleshoot this for you.

Can we add multiple email addresses?
I mean i want to send email to more than one recipient

Alaa Majzoub (6/18/2016 at 6:29 AM)
Yes, you should be able to send to multiple addresses by separating the addresses with a comma or semi-colon.
Andrea Free (6/20/2016 at 3:14 PM)
This is not true. Multiple email address throw error. Tried with both , ; an |
Failed Recipient: user1@domain.com;username@gmail.comReason: Remote host said: 553 5.1.2 The recipient address <user1@domain.com;username@gmail.com> is not5.1.2 a valid RFC-5321 address. lx10si11111168wjb.286 - gsmtp"

You need to add multiple action of the same type one for each recipient.

Hi I have a SmarterMail Professional 15.4 installed as a local email server. The user account in the SmarterMail is configured to retrieve email from external email hosting by POP retrieval. I am trying to use the email copy function to automatic forward the incoming email to other email address but I couldn't get it to work. I have tried using Forwarding function in User Account Settings and Event function following this guide https://portal.smartertools.com/kb/a2675/copy-mail-sent-to-or-from-a-mailbox.aspx but it is still not forwarding any incoming email.
I noticed that only email sent among the users in SmarterMail domain is forwarded. Incoming email from external sender will not be forwarded.
Is there any settings I missed out in the setup?

lauchonglim (1/11/2017 at 8:35 PM)
Thanks for reaching out! This request is not currently supported within SmarterMail. Only when SmarterMail performs the delivery would the filters or events run. Because there is not a delivery thread for POP retrieval, it would not trigger the actions.

Is this feature available in Smartermail 16? I can't see where we can forward selected emails.

"Add recipient" is not an option. Re-Route message doesn't allow you to save a copy in your mailbox?

Matthew Hall (6/23/2017 at 3:33 AM)
Hi, Matthew. Yes, this all is still possible in SmarterMail 16.x. I just tested it and "Add Recipient" is an available Action...it's the last one in the list.

Is it possible to set this event up once, then copy it to all user accounts in a domain? We have a large number of user accounts and setting these events up on a per-user basis is definitely going to take some time! Thanks in advance!
Kyle Kerst (8/27/2018 at 2:58 PM)
Hi Kyle. This event can be created at a system, domain or user level. If you need a different recipient to be added for each user, you'll need to create individual user events. However, if you'd like one recipient to be added on all messages being sent or from the domain, you could create a domain event instead.
