Smartermail and Windows 2012
Question asked by Kenneth Horne - 11/26/2014 at 11:53 AM
Unanswered
Hello all!  Our server kicked the bucket last night and we are waiting on our host to preform an emergency migration.  Because of this, we have to upgrade from Server 2003 to 2012.  Will Smartermail v4 run on Windows Server 2012 R2?  Just want to know before I go through the trouble of trying to install it tomorrow morning.  If not, I may switch to another email provider, or upgrade Smartermail.

Thanks, and have a good holiday!

You might have to just try it and see... Not sure there would be anyone running that old a version on that new an OS.

Thanks Steve. Yeah, I figured that would have to happen. I'll keep this thread posted with my results.

You will need to make certain that you have .NET 2.X, with all service packs, installed and map the SmarterMail application pool is mapped to .NET 2.

Thanks Bruce! We managed to get it installed with few issues. Just purchased a license for SM 13, so we will be upgrading this weekend!

Great! Glad it working for you. Remember, when you go to SmarterMail 13.X, you will need to run the special file conversation tool for 7.X and also install .NET 4.5, all of the patches, and .NET 4.5: Service pack 2; converting the SmarterMail workspace to .NET 4.0 (it is an in-place conversation and still shows up as .NET 4.0 after the security patches and service packs are installed.)
