Thanks, Mark. There are some great things coming for language translations for all of our products, not just SmarterMail. Stay tuned for that announcement.

Hi Mark,

For the time being, SmarterMail will continue to use the standard translation process that's currently available in 15.x, where Admins can add alternative language files directly within the system files of SmarterMail. The only difference is that the language files are now in JSON, rather than the previous XML format. Language files are found in the MRS\App_Data\Translations folder.

This link: http://json.org/example.html shows an example of JSON to help you get familiar with the formatting. Basically, everything is encapsulated with { } braces. You have a collection of name / value pairs.

An object begins with { (left brace) and ends with } (right brace).  Each name is followed by : (colon) and the name / value pairs are separated by , (comma).

An array begins with [ (left bracket) and ends with ] (right bracket).  Values are separated by , (comma).

A value can be a string in double quotes, a number, true or false or null, or an object or an array. These structures can be nested.

Let me know if you have any questions!!

Hey Mark,

We don't currently have a tool in place for converting the existing translation files. And with as many text changes and additions throughout the interface as we've had, the previous translation files may be too outdated for continued use.

That being said, we're still working on finalizing the new English language file to include all of the new translation strings, get rid of any duplicates, eliminate redundancies, reduce the amount of text that needs to be translated, make the file simpler to use and translate, and a variety of other things. The English language file will be ready for translating around the time of the first minor version update. We will keep you posted as things become more finalized!

Thanks!
