Spool Dashboard shows no data on Inbound Gateway
Problem reported by kevind - 7/15/2016 at 12:21 PM

Looking at the Spool Dashboard on a SmarterMail server acting as an incoming gateway.
  • The Top Inbound IP Addresses table is blank, but the Top Outbound IP Addresses table is fully populated. Shouldn't it be the other way around?
  • Also, all the other Top Inbound tables are blank. These should show incoming traffic stats so you can block senders, domains, or IPs that are spamming.
Thanks,
Kevin

I never really thought about the verbiage of the two being backwards on a Gateway but now that you mention it I can't unsee it!

The other tables being blank isn't too much of an issue as your Primary SmarterMail that the Gateway is delivering to would have those tables populated...although that indeed wouldn't be of much use if you are delivering to a non-SmarterMail server.

Hey Scarab, thanks for the reply. Of course we're using SmarterMail on the primary. Is there a better option? :-) But there's still an issue:

The Primary doesn't dig into the header to find the source IP, domain, sender, etc. It only shows the IP of the gateway, so if a certain IP, domain, user, etc. is spamming you thru the gateway, it doesn't show on the Primary!

That's why it would be nice if the other tables on the gateway were populated.

I changed this from a question to a problem as it looks to be a bug in SM when running as a gateway.
  • Top Outbound IP has data -- nobody is sending off this server
  • Top Inbound Recipients, Senders, IP Addresses, and Domains are all blank
You might argue that the Inbound data is shown on the primary server, but it doesn't appear to work that way. For example, the primary server shows the gateway IP as top inbound sender which is worthless if a certain IP is spamming you thru the gateway.

Thanks,
Kevin
