Work address not saved, Company bit not saved, EWS from Mac Contact App
Problem reported by Neal Culiner - 10/10/2015 at 8:05 AM
Resolved
I have my Mac (El Capitan) account as before setup with Exchange to my SM.latest Enterprise edition.  Using the Mac Contacts app I created a new contact, checked "Company" and entered phones, work address, and some notes.  After clicking done much of the info such as all address but zip was gone, company not saved, etc.  I checked via web mail and the same.

I unchecked "Contacts" from the exchange account in Mac Prefs and added CardDAV which appears to be working better.

As reported before I also saw with EWS that carriage returns were stripped in the Card notes so if I entered multiple line breaks/paragraphs once clicking DONE they were all removed.

While you indicated you are using, "SM.latest Enterprise edition," did you mean that you are running SmarterMail 14.3.5752, which is the latest version, released on 1 October, 2015?

  • Have you checked the logs for the specific protocol you are running to see if there are any errors noted?  If they are not set to DETAILED, you will need to change the logging level to detailed and then make several attempts to replicate the error to collect data in the logs.
  • Is this the Contact's app that's built into the newest version of El Capitan, or a 3rd party contacts app for MAC

  • Have you attempted to DELETE your SmarterMail account from the MAC and re-create it?  This is sometimes necessary to re-establish to protocol interface and properly resynchronize the data.

  • What protocol are you running to connect your MAC Contact's app to SmarterMail.  I ask because APPLE made the included version of Contacts compatible with the LDAP protocol with El Capitan (OS-X 10.11)

I ask because APPLE made some significant changes in the integrated products which are part of the El Capitan release of OSX, making the Contacts app fully compatible with LDAP.

This information will be extremely helpful to the SmarterTools/SmarterMail development team as they attempt to help you resolve this issue.

Yes, 5752 is the version. Built in Contacts app in Mac OS X (happened in Yosemite as well). Accounts have been removed/replaced multiple times.

So the only question left is what do your logs show - the logs specific to the protocol you are using for the contacts app?

You will need to have those logs set to DETAILED to capture the data.

I think the easiest solution is for someone at ST to try to repro the issue rather than chasing down logs in this situation. It's not really an error situation (I'm a developer), this is a simple issue of EWS connected account using the Contacts app and having various issues that simply suggest ST needs to run tests against this. Just my $.02 but many thanks for your replies.

If you won't help with lofs snd data, then you'll need to open a support ticket. If it's a bug, it will be refunded.

Neal, I was able to reproduce this bug.  It has been fixed and will be available in the next minor release.

I have exactly the same issue. The problem does occur with Outlook 2011, Outook 15.18, contacts.app under Maveriks and El Capitan. Moreover, I cannot sync contacts using Outlook on Windows 7.
On OSX, reminders, notes and calendars work well.
Server is running latest version of smartermail. It seems that variables of address except for postcode are not transmitted. Entering data via webinterface works well and is displayed correctly.
