Problem reported by Jean-Guy Dubois - 7/9/2015 at 3:16 AM
Resolved
Hello,

Smartermail 14.0.5661.
Outlook 2013. EAS accounts.

When a user try to send an email that exceed max message size, Outlook can't send the email. The email stand into outbox and and it generates an endless network throughput.

EDIT : I have reproduced the same problem on a SM release 13.3.5535.

Can anyone else confirm this ?

Thank you.

Login to SmarterMail, as the SmarterMail admin, and increase the maximum message size. Then propogate the setting to the domain and users. Search the SmarterMail online help for your version for specific instructions

Hello Bruce,

My goal is not to increase this value.

For information : no problem with SMTP.
user receives a Delivery Failure with "Reason: Message exceeded the domain's maximum message size limit"

Jean-Guy;

Thank you for the clarification.

If the receiving MX server is rejecting your messages, it is because the remote mail server operator has set a limit which is smaller than the size of the e-mail message that you are attempting to send.

Your client should contact the intended recipient and have them ask their e-mail system administrator if it is possible to increase the size of the message they can receive.

Alternately, if you can upgrade to SmarterMail 14.4 Enterprise, and take advantage of the ability to link a file directly from one of the new connected services.

SmarterMail 14.X Connected Services
SmarterMail 14.X Connected Services

Note that these must be enabled on a per domain, and per account basis.

Once enabled on the per domain, and per account basis, they must also be enabled and mapped by the individual e-mail account holder.

Linking DropBox with SmarterMail 14.X
Linking Dropbox with SmarterMail 14.X
Once mapped and enabled, you can store your files in one of the services and then provide a direct link to the file from any of the linked services by selecting LINK FROM during the composition of a message:

Linking a file from an External Source in SmarterMail 14.X
Linking a file from an External Source in SmarterMail 14.X
which opens the following window:

Select File Source for Linked File

Then select your source and file and embed the link.

Bruce,

can you please read my message ?

I'm NOT an end user !
I'm SYS admin of two SM servers.

And I do NOT want to send an email.
I report a bug : with EAS, SM servers do not properly handle emails that exceed the max message value.

Maybe my poor English does not make me understand !? :o

Jean-Guy, I have replicated the issue with Outlook 2013 and EAS relating to outbound messages that exceed the domain's message size limit.  I have created a ticket with you to get you the custom build.
