Clamd.exe goes CRAZY
Problem reported by Ronald Raley - 11/3/2014 at 12:31 PM
Submitted
All of a sudden, our SmarterMail 12 server becomes unresponsive.  I remote desktop into the server to find approximately 50 clamd.exe processes running.  They maxed out the RAM on the machine.  I successfully end the processes of all of them except one.

Not sure where to start in fixing this :(

Any help would be appreciated.
Ron

Hi Ron,
I would recommend that you stop the SmarterMail service, and then delete the following two files:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service\Clam\etc\clamd.CONF
C:\Program Files (x86)\SmarterTools\SmarterMail\Service\Clam\etc\freshclam.CONF

Upon service restart, if you're still seeing multiple processes, then I would suggest opening up a support ticket.

Rod,

Thanks for the recommendation.  This has been completed.  We shall see how it goes.

Thanks,
Ron

Unfortunately, this issue occurred again today.  There were 32 clamd.exe processes running.  Each one held between 100k and 400k of memory.  It brought the entire mail server to its knees.

I have disabled ClamAV until our team can be sure it does not occur again.

Thanks,
Ron

try to change the timeout in SM configuration from 60s to 120s. After that solved my problem.
