Internet Explorer 5 showing up as top browser version?!?!?
Problem reported by shayna long - 4/14/2015 at 8:25 AM
Submitted
I ran a report for 03/01/15 - 03/31/15 for the top 25 browser versions on my site.
I have been running these reports for almost 2 years now and IE5 has NEVER even shown up in my statistics. Now, all-of-a-sudden, its showing up as the top browser with 956,155 hits?! This is definitely not accurate whatsoever.

Anyone else having the same issue?
This is my report...

What shows up in your top user agents that identifies as IE 5? Also, What version of SmarterStats are you running?

Hi Grady! Thank you for your response!
I did some further research into the matter this morning and discovered that the IE5.01 stats were specific to 3/26/15 - 3/27/15. Previously I had only compared to monthly reports. Then I found the IE5.01 agents was specific to those 2 days. On my top 50 user agents reports ran before and after those dates, IE5.01 was not even present. My boss and I have concluded that a robot hit our site on those 2 days.

I'm glad its not a glitch in Smarter Stats software! Keeps me confident that the stats I run are pretty accurate after all. Thank you again for following up with my post! Maybe this will help someone else in the future?

I think that hackers and ddosers sometimes are known to use old browsers like that.
