Subscription Emails
Problem reported by Steve Reid - 8/28/2014 at 9:48 AM
Resolved
It would be nice if the email received from subscriptions where HTML formatted. Currently they show up in Outlook as times and they are kinda of jumbled. The footer should be push down and the font smaller.

The first line reads: The community post...

Maybe it should read: The SmarterTools Community post...

Subscribed Emails are going to be plain text telling you what Threads have changed and allow you to click to each Thread.

When you go read the Thread it will have highlighted areas that are new since you last read it.

Also, changes are going to be batched hourly to eliminate the "get an email for every update".

This will be coming in a few days along with some other cool features.

I'm going to change this to "Not a Problem" because we have a plan of attach for this... and that is to dramatically simplify the emails and make the Threads page clearly display all the changes.

Sounds good! Too bad they can't be HTML and a little fancier, since right now they are very plain.

The subject for comment notifications should include the thread title also.

Right now it's: A user has posted a comment on a Community thread you created!

Maybe it should be: A comment has been added to your "Reported tag" thread.

As a clearer example, here is what the subscription email looks like in Smartermail web interface:

 - wheemer - Photobucket

And here is what it looks like in Outlook 2013

After further thought on this, I will definitely be missing the instant emails. Throughout the day I very often respond immediately when I get the email. I would really really like if it stayed instant.

HTML is planned when we change it, with a simple look that will work for our customers as well.

The template for the subscription emails has been updated on our live portal. This comment is so we can check it against clients.

So things do look better, however we are back to the time new roman font. As you can see from the last screenshot the other font looks a lot better... I think it may be Arial?

Also is it possible to have the email subject include the threads subject?

You have provided some good feedback. The subject now matches the title within the email which includes the thread. Also, the outlook email is still a work in progress. It should have the same font as before by the time we are done.

It's Helvetica > Arial, and it should be correct now. We had to change the templates to use a table for layout (yuck) because Outlook, and in doing so the cascade of the font style was lost. We've since restored it.

Can the subject for the comment notification change to also include the thread title?

Right now it's: New "Community Comment by Grady Werner"

Maybe: Comment added to "Subscription Emails" thread

The author is less important and can easily be seen within the body.

Yea, that should actually already be like that. We will look into it tomorrow.

I may in fact be pushing it, but I was wondering if the "View Thread" button could take you to the actual new content it is announcing?

Right now I am jut brought to the top of the Thread. It would be so nice if it moved to the comment/post.

We discussed it. There are a couple barriers but it was discussed and is a possibility in the future.

One other thing I was meaning to post... Can we have the Subscribe button change to Subscribed along with the check mark?

Quotes in the subject of the emails need some attention as currently they look strange.
