Does Smartermail support IMAP AUTHENTICATE PLAIN?
Question asked by Rick Sanders - 1/25/2015 at 3:42 PM
Unanswered
Does Smartermail support the AUTHENTICATE PLAIN login method?  If so, how is it enabled?  When we try the server responds with NO AUTHENTICATE instead of sending the expected '+' response (telling us to send the login command).

1 AUTHENTICATE PLAIN
* OK IMAP4rev1 SmarterMail
1 NO AUTHENTICATE
unexpected LOGIN response: 1 NO AUTHENTICATE

I can't tell if Smartermail supports AUTH PLAIN because it doesn't list its capabilities n response to the CAPABILITY command:

1 capability
* CAPABILITY IMAP4 IMAP4rev1
1 OK CAPABILITY completed

Thanks
Rick

I would like to know if smartermail removed AUTH PLAIN functionality and if so why?

when I telnet to the server I get the following:
250-AUTH LOGIN CRAM-MD5

AUTH PLAIN is not supported in SM15. Causes me loads of headaches in linux systems with notification features. I have to use a gmail account for these then forward the mail to SM.

SM should accept ALL forms of authentication, or at least let you pick which ones you want to enable. SM doesn't even support TLS 1.2 which is an indicator how obsolete their email server is.
