Frequent Smartermail errors

Since 3 days we are facing frequent issues with smartermail on a server. We have Smartermail 12.0.5178 Pro Edition on a Plesk server. Since past 3 days the smartermail stops working though the service shows to be running. We encounter the following errors
 
Exception type: SocketException 
    Exception message: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:17001
 
The error goes away after restarting the smartermail service, but comes back again after some time.
 
What could be the issue and how to resolve it?

Hi Ashish,
 
I would recommend upgrading to the latest version of 12 or if you are able to version 13 first as there are some bug fixes that may help to resolve your issue.
 
The next time this occurs please try to telnet to SmarterMail on port 25 on the server locally and external to see if you are able to connect and if not find out what type of response you receive.

I had recently installed asp.net 4.5 in the server. Can this be the reason? Whenever we face the error, we can connect to port 25 and port 110. The only problem is with the webmail login. We have to restart the smartermail service once. Does Smartermail support asp.net 4.5?
