This isn't really so simple. The professional version of Smartermail does not support SSL. However, by default, when iPhone tries to set up a mail account, it attempts to connect to the mail host through SSL during the verification process. This usually takes a long time, and it usually prompts you twice telling you that it cannot connect to your mail host through SSL and asks you to confirm whether or not you would like to continue without SSL.

Leong Yew - SSL wasn't supported in Mail 3.x Professional. However, it IS supported in later, and more current, versions of SmarterMail Professional. SmarterMail 3.x is a legacy product so it may be in your best interest to upgrade as we've made many improvements in the product over the last few years.
